Time history analysis has been applied instead of the spectral modal analysis to evaluate the actual seismic behavior of the equipment. In spectral modal analysis, response spectra are usually broadened in the seismic analysis of equipment to take account of the material property uncertainties. In time history analysis, ASME proposed time history broadening method that performs time history analyses by using the original wave, the 10% stretched and compressed waves to take account of conservativeness corresponding to the broadened response spectrum. This study proposed the refined ASME’s method that allows us to select the time inclement shift number and use the scaling factors. We dealt with the cranes as represetative equipment, and showed the applicability of the present method.
