[1B15] Reduction and Resource Recycling of High-level Radioactive Wastes through Nuclear Transmutation
(3-2)Study on Recovery of LLFPs from Eluents after Wet Processing of Nuclear Waste Glass
Keywords:Nuclear Waste Glass, Wet Processing, Long-lived Fission Products, Separation & Recovery, ImPACT
We studied selective recovery of long-lived fission products (LLFPs) from the eluents after the wet chemical processing of nuclear waste glass (NWG) under strongly acidic conditions. For Pd and Se, electrodeposition and chemical reduction have been tested. As a result, both methods were demonstrated to be employable for recovery of these elements. However, the chemical reduction through addition of hydrazine is much more appropriate compared with the electrodeposition in terms of efficiency. Zirconium(IV) present in a H2SO4-based eluent from NWG was successfully adsorbed onto anion exchange resin, and readily recovered by elution with betaine.
