When a nuclear fuel system approaches critical state and neutron count rate rapidly increases, it is desired to estimate the reactivity as soon as possible. But we need to wait the power becomes stable to use existing estimation methods. In this study, Savitzky-Golay method was applied to calculate numerical time-derivative of average neutron count rate profile and to estimate the reactivity by directly using the equation of power profile in subcritical quasi-steady state without its integration.

The study showed that a series of neutron count rate data up to several ten or a hundred second was enough to estimate the reactivity without the data in stable condition.
