[2O09] Development of a small-angle neutron scattering geometry with ring-shaped collimation
Keywords:Small-angle neutron scattering, Compact neutron source, Monte Carlo simulation
A SANS geometry with ring-shaped collimated beam(r-SANS) is develpoed to conduct experiments using compact neutron sources. In this geometry, using a large amount of sample, scattered neutrons are increased. The scattered neutron flux is high because the scattered neutrons with each scattering angle are overlapping on each point of the ring center line. This makes high signal to noise ratio experiments possible. To study the feasibility, it was tested at Kyoto University Accelerator-driven Neutron Source (KUANS). Two types of silica-gel samples were measured by the r-SANS and a typical small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) geometries. When the smearing effect of the r-SANS geometry was considered in Monte Carlo simulation, the experimental and the simulated results of both samples were consistent.
