[3O06] Highway PC Bridge Inspection using 950 keV Portable X-ray Source

We first apply the 950keV portable LINAC-based X-Ray source to an on-site inspection of the PC (Pre-stressed Concrete) bridge of a certain high way in Japan. Advanced flat panel detector with longer data stacking time is adopted in order to inspect 550 mm thick PC concrete for the first time. The use of X-ray mesh collimators reduces soft X-ray scattering noises, which makes the X-ray penetration easier and improves the X-ray image quality. Combining the mesh collimators with the advanced flat panel detector, grout filling flaws in a PC sheath of a 550mm-thick box girder bridge could be examined. Based on the inspection results of the grout filling or not, we perform the structural numerical analysis to evaluate the strength degradation quantitatively. We propose the guideline of maintenance consisting of (i) screening by eye and hammering, (ii) X-ray inspection, (iii) structural analysis, and (iv) maintenance planning. The verification is onward.
