Mitsubishi Heavy Industries(MHI) is working on developing new fields based on the technologies which has developed and acquired from nuclear energy field. In this article, MHI would like to introduce "Me-CAS", clean air shelter for medical use, which has been developed with consideration for the spread of infection of the new corona virus(COVID-19) and has been delivered to medical institutions in Japan. This is the negative-pressure tent for the prevention of infectious diseases, and it uses ventilation and air conditioning technology developed in nuclear energy field and nuclear emergency evacuation shelter technology. MHI would also introduce our approach to the research of "Medical resource management system" which is the application of simulation technology developed for nuclear emergency preparedness in order to support evacuation planning.
Please access the address at the bottom of the MHI exhibition page.

"Me-CAS (Medical Clean Air Shelter)" is a negative pressure tent developed for infectious disease countermeasures based on positive pressure tent "CAS(clean air shelter)" for nuclear emergency deployed by our company affiliate, and by applying subdivision (Zoning) and negative pressure control technology for each zone.
The interior of the tent is divided into an anterior chamber (preparation room), a changing room for protective clothing, and an examination room. Pressure control and air purification can reduce the risk of infection for HCWs during infection test, examinations, and vaccinations.
Unlike general tents, this tent uses a simple air expansion method that does not require the assembly of the frame, so it can be stored compactly in normal times and can be installed quickly when and where necessary.
It has been adopted by several medical institutions.
