[1D04] Study on appropriate review of simple dose calculation method for gamma ray shielding
Keywords:Gamma-ray shielding calculation, Simple dose evaluation, ICRP 2007 recommendations, Point-kernel method
In the licensing of a nuclear/radiation facility, the operator conducts a shielding safety evaluation to ensure compliance with regulations, and the relevant authorities review the safety based on the results. Gamma-ray shielding evaluation is often performed using a simple dose calculation by the point-kernel method. However, the old QAD code, which is still used in Japan, cannot benefit from the latest computing environment and becomes difficult to maintain. Currently, we have been entrusted with safety research to appropriately reflect changes of the dose conversion factors with the incorporation of the ICRP 2007 recommendation, and also to review the framework of calculation based on the latest knowledge. We report on the concept and plan of the research, and the results obtained so far.
