N,N,N',N',N'',N''-hexaoctyl nitrilotriacetamide (HONTA) is given attention for selective minor actinide recovery from high-level liquid waste generated by spent nuclear fuel reprocessing. In this study, the electronic structures of HONTA and its protonation in HNO3 were investigated by photoelectron spectroscopy at PF BL20A in KEK, and their ionization energies were compared to estimate the effect of radiation. NMR was also performed to elucidate theinteraction of HONTA and HNO3.
