[2M05] Study of Local Heating in Combination Treatment of Hyperthermia with Radiation Therapy for Breast Cancer Treatment
Keywords:Hyperthermia, Radiation Therapy, Microwave Antenna, Gene analysis, Breast Cancer
By increasing the temperature in the tissue, hyperthermia treatment aims to make the cells more sensitive and eventually kill the targeted tissues. The combination of hyperthermia with radiation-based treatment has shown an increase in the damages inflicted to the tumor cells. To study this sensitization mechanism, local application of the combination therapy was made experimentally as it would be in the patient body. By reproducing this local treatment, the purpose is to analyze the potential differences obtained depending on the applied therapy. These results give a better understanding of the biological mechanisms involved and unveil possible optimizations in the combination treatment in order to reach higher efficiency in killing the tumor.
