As one of core design variations of the light water cooled fast reactor, the square lattice type core, which can be deployed by replacing easy-exchangeable components of the conventional BWR, is being developed. The square lattice type core aims at increasing Pu utilization, to respond to the short and middle term issue of fuel cycle. To enhance compatibility with the conventional BWR and make transition from it easier, the square lattice type core with the active fuel length equivalent to that of the conventional BWR fuel was studied.
