[3L07] Detection of mass transfer in liquid metals by quartz crystal microbalance
Keywords:Quartz crystal microbalance, Liquid metal, Mass transfer, Corrosion, Diffusion coefficient
Liquid lithium (Li) is one of the tritium breeders of fusion reactors. Liquid sodium (Na) is one of the coolants of fast reactors. Austenitic steels corrode due to the depletion of nickel (Ni) in these liquid metals. The purpose is to make clear the mass transfer behaviors of Ni in liquid metals by quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). The Ni electrode of the QCM unit got wet with liquid metals at 473K and 523K for 600 and 1200 seconds. The dissolution and diffusion of Ni into liquid metals was evaluated by QCM. The diffusion coefficients and other parameters which determine the mass transfer behavior of Ni in liquid metals were obtained from the experimental data.
