[3L08] In-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy on self-healing behavior of oxide layer in liquid lead
Keywords:Liquid metal, Oxide layer, Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
Liquid lead (Pb) is a promising coolant of fast reactors. The chemical compatibility of structural materials with liquid Pb is improved by the formation of oxide layers on their surfaces. The purpose of the present study is to make clear the self-healing behaviors of oxide layers in liquid Pb. The specimen of Zr metal was immersed in liquid Pb at 773K and formed an oxide layer on the surface. The specimen was taken out from the liquid Pb and the oxide layer was partially removed using a lathe. The specimen was again immersed into the liquid Pb to recover the oxide layer. The self-healing behaviors of the oxide layer in liquid Pb was observed in-situ using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
