For the development of liquid tin (Sn) diverters of fusion reactors, chemical compatibility of liquid Sn with structural materials is one of the important issues. The purpose of the present study is to clarify the chemical compatibility of various steels in liquid Sn. The rectangular specimens of Fe, Fe-5Cr, JLF-1 (Fe-9Cr-2W-0.1C), SUS410 (Fe-12Cr), SUS430 (Fe-18Cr), and SUS316L (Fe-18Cr-12Ni-2Mo) were immersed in liquid Sn at 500℃ for 250 hours. The reaction layers of Fe and Sn were found on the steel surfaces were detected by SEM/EDX analysis. The weight losses of specimens with higher Fe content material corroded more severely in liquid Sn. The Cr concentration in steels did not relate with the corrosion behaviors.
