The 99mTc is produced by transmutation of 99Mo produced by the fission method ((n, f) method) targeting uranium. However, accidents of manufacturing facilities and transportation may hinder the medical use of RI and related research and development. Thus, it is desired to strengthen medical RI security. In this study, the applicability of 99Mo/99mTc production is evaluated by the activation method using a commercial light water reactor (PWR). As applicability studies, high-density MoO3 pellets are fabricated and their characteristics are evaluated. The dissolution characteristics of the irradiation target are investigated in order to construct a process for supplying 99Mo from the irradiated MoO3 specimens. The preliminary test of recovering from used Mo is conducted for effective use of resources.
