[2B01] Experimental Verification of Water Content Measurement Method in Concrete Using Am-Be Neutron Source and Indium Foil
Keywords:Neutron, Nuclear power, Indium, Concrete
We aimed to develop a method to measure the water content using an Am-Be neutron source. When neutrons enter the concrete, they are moderated by elastic scattering with hydrogen atoms, and these neutrons radiate the metal foil. The water content can be determined from the correlation between the quantity of radioactivation and the water content. In the previous study, gold was used as the metal foil. In this study, we used indium because indium has a larger activation cross section and a shorter half-life than gold, which allows us to perform more accurate measurements in a shorter time. The simulated values of the quantity of radioactivation almost matched with the experimental measurements.
