Regarding the delocalization of positive charges on polystyrene, it has been reported for decades that formation of the dimer radical cation between adjacent benzene rings occurs. However, till now the details have not been clarified. In this study, we investigated on the delocalization of positive charge over dimer in polystyrene by using pulse radiolysis and quantum chemical calculation of polystyrene and copolymers of polystyrene and polymethyl methacrylate.
