Geopolymer is a group of newly derived materials for the stabilization of radioactive wastes. In this study, sorption of cesium (Cs+), strontium (Sr2+) and europium (Eu3+) to sodium-activated and metakaolin-based geopolymer (Na-MKGP) was studied as a function of pH and different background salt concentrations. Sorption results were evaluated by combining the surface characteristics of Na-MKP such as surface protonation, specific surface area (BET) and cation exchange capacity (CEC) with “2-site protolysis no electrostatics surface complexation and cation exchange (2SPNE/CE)” model.
