Chemical reduction of Pd by N2H4 in HNO3 aq was studied to demonstrate facile recovery of Pd from simulated HLW. Full and selective recovery of Pd with co-precipitation of Se can be achieved by addition of 60.5 mM N2H4·H2O. First, a yellow amorphous phase containing Pd(II) is formed, followed by its reduction to Pd(0) under a catalytic effect of the concomitant Se. Further separation of Se from the recovered Pd would be required.
