At the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Site, groundwater and contaminated water has been treated with adsorption vessels filled with crystalline silicotitanate (CST) to remove radionuclides (Cs-137 & Sr-90). The replacement timings of the adsorption vessels are determined by the criteria concentrations of Sr-90 at the outlets of the vessels. The Sr adsorption performance of CST is influenced by adsorption of other cations in the water to be treated, including proton. Therefore, the replacement cycle of the adsorption vessels is influenced by the pH value of the water. In this study, we conducted tests to evaluate proton adsorption behavior and influence of pH on Sr adsorption on CST.
