[3C06] Improvement of radioactivity estimation method using PHITS and DCHAIN for mass production of high quality medical RI in accelerators
Keywords:PHITS, DCHAIN, radioisotope production, nuclear cross section data, accelerator
Medical radioisotopes (Med-RIs) are widely used for high quality diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In recent years, the production method using high-energy particle of several tens of MeV and thick targets in accelerators has been studied. We study the method by the particle transport code PHITS and the induced radioactivity code DCHAIN, which can calculate the RI production rate and its time variation. However, for the production by particles with energies higher than 20 MeV, the yield used in DCHAIN is not very accurate, because the yield is calculated by nuclear reaction models, which are not sufficiently reliable. We improved the function of PHITS and DCHAIN to use the more reliable yield based on the evaluated nuclear data (JENDL-4.0/HE).
