As part of the study of the RI-PB design for the emergency core cooling system of a nuclear power plant, the concept of designing the intake structure that constitutes a part of the cooling system using the damage probability as an index will be described. In order to ensure the seismic safety of nuclear power plants, it is important to balance risks. In this study, the intake structure was set on the condition that the risk was balanced by applying a fault tree to the reactor emergency core cooling system (this result is reported in Part 12) as the target level. An example of a study in which the optimum design was performed is shown.
