Keywords:COVID-19, Pandemic, Questionnaire Survey, Lockdown
Lockdown for COVID-19 is currently in place in many countries and these countries face to a large economic and social cost, including unemployment on a massive scale. In Japan, on April 7, 2020, the government declared a state of emergency in the seven prefectures of Tokyo, Osaka, and so on. Prime Minister Abe issued a message to refrain from going out when possible. This study investigates the effect of the Japanese government's declaration of a state of emergency on April 7, 2020 for COVID-19. The results showed that 90% of the respondents refrained from going out for some purpose, 70% of the respondents refrained from going out for "meals", 50% of the respondents refrain from going out for "shopping" and 30% of the respondents refrain from going out for "commuting". We also found that the measures to encourage self-restraint differed depending on the purpose of going out.
