[124] Factor analysis of foreign residents of municipalities

In contrast to the national population decline, the foreign resident population in Japan has been increasing and giving considerable influence. Recently, the interest in maintaining national population and mitigating depopulation through the influence of foreign residents in increasing. However, no study has quantitatively analyzed its effect. This paper aims to clarify effective measures on maintaining foreigner population and mitigating depopulation by quantitative analysis of factors that affect foreign population. Results indicate 1) the significance of variables for income level and employment environment of municipalities in relation to the foreign resident population and indicate 2) that foreign residents tend to be more numerous in municipalities where measures are implemented for supporting the medical welfare of foreign residents and foreign workers.
