This paper aims to make clear the transition of land use of a scattered village, Iki island, particularly since the Meiji era. In the rural area especially inside of Iki island, it has been clarified that its farmer villages were originally formed with a village pattern called Scattered Unit ― mountains in the background, housing and fields. Some of those villages, however, seem to have been changed, namely the target area of this study, Hachibatake village, is one of the examples. From the perspective of the land use transition, we gathered the information on its cadastre and cadastral maps made from the Meiji era, and analyzed the cadastral maps of each period. The results were as followings: First of all, the land use pattern was established in the Meiji era. Then, in the 1900s, residential lots began to increase on the mountainside, and in the 1910s, lots began to increase on the flat side as well, and until 1970, almost the entire area along the road were changed into residential. Thus, we were able to show concrete transitions in the land use pattern along roads occurring in a farmer village of Iki island.
