Interim Case Studies in Major Infectious Countries
Keywords:Restriction of Movement, COVID-19, SARS CoV-2, Lockdown
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS CoV-2) induced by novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been a historical threat in the world. Lockdown or restriction of movement are effective strategies to minimize community transmission, though economic activities are limited for a couple of months. This paper aims to identify the typology of lockdowns and its challenges amid COVID-19 through the case studies in major infectious countries. Furthermore, authors intend to figure out an intersection between disaster risk management (DRM) and Public Health. The lockdowns are categorized into four: Protection-measures and micro-management, Top-down authority, State-based, and Voluntary refrain approach. Japanese government selected the fourth, and the approach has been adopted in DRM especially during evacuation phase. Further research on lockdowns and immobile populations are needed to understand the prolonged socio-economic impacts by COVID-19.
