[157] Research on "play" and "playground" to foster sense of self-efficacy in childhood

In recent years, plays in childhood have been impoverished and passive, and there is concern that this may have a negative impact on physical and mental growth of children.This study focused on self-efficacy, which is a part of non-cognitive skill in growth and also examined the relationship between self-efficacy and play.The results showed a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and outside play that have actively take place in community. We also examined the relationship between outside play and its locations, and it was clarified that the following two points.
1) Social elements such as "If we go to a playground, we will find friends" and "It is easy to get together with friends" are emphasized in playgrounds, not just physical elements.
2) Children interpret urban spaces in a variety of ways and create their own ways of playing and places to play.
