Conventionally, the comfort and various uses of outdoor public spaces, such as streets, have not been emphasized in Japanese urban development. However, improving the quality of street space, which is a public space, has become more important in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of streets that pedestrians tend to use. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to conduct an actual measurement survey of pedestrian volume on streets in the central area of Hiroshima and to clarify the relationship between street characteristics and pedestrian volume. As a result, the main street characteristics that are thought to affect pedestrian volume are the distance to the center of the bustle and large commercial facilities in the locational index, the building-to-land ratio of retail stores in the surrounding building index, and the beautification of streets in the street composition index.
