[52] Strategic design of walkable places in the urban core area of Nagoya City
Analysis with GPS data and a questionnaire survey
Keywords:walkable, urban design, GPS data
In walkable city development, street design has increasingly demanded walkable urban places to accommodate open space activities. However, there is a lack of planning methodology to identify where to introduce walkable places and what design is desirable for it in an applicable manner to car-dependent cities, such as Nagoya. Accordingly in this study, it is aimed to develop a methodology of strategic design of walkable places in the urban core area of Nagoya from the empirical analysis with GPS data for actual pedestrian movements and a questionnaire survey for latent preferences for walkable places. The street design for the Kanayama area was proposed based on the analysis revealing the spatially-distorted pedestrian movements and the people’s preferences by age.
