[73] Segmentation in the process of urban formation and its expression in the naval port city Kure

The existence and the role of the navy has been paid attention when it comes to urban planning and development in naval port cities in Japan. However, in recent years, independence of local people and diversity of urban space has been pointed out. The aim of this study is to verify that the urban development process in the naval port city of Kure had the segmented nature and to clarify systematically and structurally that segmentation and how it had been developed. Specifically, it is revealed that the process of geographical and spatial development of urban formation of Kure during urban founding period while the relationship between that process and the urban construction plan which was developed by Japanese navy is focused on.
