[135] A Study on the Effect of Retrofitting Existing Neighborhoods Applying the Concept of Sponge City
The Example of Eight Neighborhoods being Renovated from 2015 to 2017 in Zhenjiang City, China

This study takes Zhenjiang City, a pilot city of sponge city construction in China, as the research object. Using field surveys, including interviews with people in charge of design, construction, and management operations, and questionnaires from residents, the study grasps the retrofitting policies and practices of existing residential neighborhoods using sponge cities, as well as analyzes the effects and issues of rainwater management and maintenance management. Through the introduction of permeable pavement, rain garden and other facilities of the sponge transformation, the community rainwater management has been significantly improved, but lack of maintenance management is currently facing an important issue.
