Keywords: Place attachment, Willingness to contribute to communities, Community involvement programs, Community interaction
This study empirically examined the effects of a community involvement program at a junior high school, Kaita School in Iizuka, Fukuoka, on students’ attachment and willingness to contribute to the community. As a result of the questionnaire survey to the students, it was confirmed that students’ attachment to Kaita area increases the willingness to participate in Kaita’s festivals, and the willingness to contribute to other local communities. It was also confirmed that the willingness to participate in Kaita’s festivals will increase the willingness to contribute to other local communities. However, this study also verified that a community involvement program decreased the willingness to participate in Kaita’s festivals, which revealed that the community involvement program did not always have a positive effect to foster the willingness to contribute to other local communities.
