[69] Visitor behaviors and their determinants on reallocated street spaces

In recent years, several street redesign projects aimed at attracting pedestrians being carried out in Japan. This study shows a comprehensive link between visitor behaviors on reallocated streets and their determinants. By conducting three case studies in Japan, this study thoroughly examines behaviors and determinants through field and questionnaire surveys and analyzes the relation. The results indicate the following main points: 1) raising the amount of activity requires utilizing the spaces based on roadside facilities; 2) the increase in the attractiveness of streets is influenced by factors connected with the rise in the reputation of shops, street atmosphere and walking and visiting environment; 3) the attractiveness of streets influence the amount of money spent and the number of shops visited.
