[207] Basic Research on Space of Subway Station and its Surroundings
- Focusing on "Passing Through" and Pick-up and Drop-off Spaces in Sapporo and Fukuoka
Keywords:Subway Station, Space of Station and its Surroundings, Subway Station Entrance/Exit, Pick-up/Drop-off Space, Ordinance-Designated City
In the case of aboveground railway stations, the number of cases of integrated development of station, plaza and urban space near stations is increasing. However, subway stations generally do not have station buildings or station plazas aboveground. Despite their importance in the area, examples of integrated planning of the subway station and the space near the station are limited to CBD in megacities. This study proposes the concept of “Space of Station and its Surroundings for subway stations”. We surveyed the use of urban space around subway stations in Sapporo and Fukuoka, and discussed the relationship between the subway stations and the surrounding large-scale commercial facilities and street space. It became clear that the large facilities connected to the subway station are used as a passageway to the ground level, and that the roads around the station function as a pick-up and drop-off space.
