[214] Research on the potential of street surface art as a road device
Keywords:Living street, Pedestrian and bicycle coexistence road, Asphalt art
This study focuses on the use of street surface art as a road device, which has been increasing in Europe and the United States in recent years, and examines the potential of street surface art as a road device by analyzing the design and installation methods of the Bloomberg Philanthropies' Asphalt Art project, which has been involved in a large number of such projects, as well as the safety effects of the art. The potential of street surface art as a road device was verified by analyzing projects that have proven to be effective in terms of safety. As a result, we were able to deepen our knowledge on the purpose and design of installation, such as the fact that many cases were installed for the purpose of traffic calming, road safety improvement, and community revitalization, and that they were designed in a variety of ways to take advantage of the local identity. The analysis of projects with proven safety benefits showed that even highly attractive designs reduced the number of accidents, confirming that high attractiveness of a design does not necessarily lead to overlooking risks.
