[82] Spatial accessibility to outpatient treatment in the context of everyday life
- Analysis focusing on transportation modes of walking and driving
Keywords:outpatient treatment, spatial accessibility, medical departments, transportation modes, spatial disparity
This study evaluated spatial accessibility to outpatient treatment considering the comprehensiveness of medical departments and the variety of medical facilities in each department, focusing on differences and relationships between two transportation modes, walking and driving. Eighteen of accessibility measures were calculated for 500m-by-500m mesh in a study region selected in the western suburb of Tokyo. Spatial distributions of the accessibility measures were examined in relation to the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the meshes. The results indicated that, while healthcare accessibility by walking showed substantial spatial disparity and only limited areas had sufficiently good accessibility except for internal medicine, driving assured sufficient accessibility for the entire study region regardless of the medical departments.
