The Japanese government has been seeking the equal opportunity of women so that 30% of the researchers are better to be women. Currently, percentage of the executive board members of JSCN remains very low(less than 10%), presumably reflecting unequal opportunity for women not only in our society but in any other medical professions. Therefore, it is of urgent need to find out what the preventing factors are, and what we could do to promote the equal opportunity. The theme of the meeting is diversity in child neurology, and it is no doubt that the equal opportunity of women is fundamental of the diversity. In this talk event, we have two distinguished women scientists playing the executive roles in their home countries, one from Taiwan, two female members from Japan, as well as Dr. Takahashi who is the president of Japan Pediatrics Society and former president of JSCN. The view points of women scientists from diverse countries will surely be crucial to dig out the problems we do not recognize, and the participation of Dr. Takahashi would help find out the realistic solution of the issues. We would like to encourage the members, women and men, of the society to participate in the event and discuss on this issue for the bright future of child neurology.
