[07-01] A vapor of caffeine and GABA enhance temporal attention.
Keywords:Attentional blink, Caffeine, GABA
We investigated whether vapors of caffeine and GABA could improve human cognition. We used a double-blinded and placebo-controlled design and 24 participants were assigned into one of the three different vapor conditions of Caffeine, GABA or Placebo constituents respectively. The participants were asked to complete a session consisting of three cognitive tasks (card-sorting, proofreading, rapid-serial-visual-presentation (RSVP) tasks) and a questionnaire (POMS2 questionnaire). Session takes 16 minutes to complete, and the participants were asked to complete three sessions repeatedly. After the first session, participants were asked to vape the component according to their assigned condition and then completed the other two sessions. The number of correct response of card-sorting and proofreading tasks and mood state from the questionnaire were not different among the conditions, but Caffeine and GABA improved performance in RSVP task compared with Placebo-control. This results indicates Caffeine and GABA could have different effects on temporal attention.
