This seminar delve into the dementias and the most common form of dementia. Epidemiology, pathophysiology, and current hypotheses central to the disease state. The current continuum and the clinical manifestations associated with each stage. Current definitions of additional clinical factors including neuropsychiatric disturbances and their impact on the patient and the caregiver. Included discussion on pathophysiological mechanisms of agitation and how best to screen and address these problems including differentiating from delirium. Treating the illness dependent on the target symptoms.
