世話人よりハイライトの紹介：東日本大震災の津波断層の理解を目的とする掘削が2024年９月‐12月に国際深海科学掘削計画(IODP) Expedition 405　JTRACK(Tracking Tsunamigenic Slips Across and Along the Japan Trench)として実施される．JTRACKは「プレート境界断層浅部とその周辺の構成岩石や流体の物理的・化学的特性と，その時空間変化を理解することにより，巨大断層すべりや巨大津波を引き起こす要因を把握する」ことを大目的としている．ちきゅうを用いた現行のIODPで実施される最後の航海である．巨大地震発生メカニズムの理解が大きく進展すると国際的に期待されている計画である．※ハイライトとは
