As a result of SEM observation, in the clay containing sauconite and fraipontite, a striped structure consisting of coarse grain parts (particle diameter 1 to 3 μm) and fine grain parts (1 μm or less) is developed. The fine grained part shows the composition of the sauconite, and in the coarse grained part, the particles of the sauconite, saponite, iron saponite, amesite and fraipontite are in close coexistence.
