The study discussed quantification methods of carbonates in cement pastes of natural and accelerated carbonation by TG, combined with XRD-Rietveld analysis. The stepwise method gives a similar carbonate amount to that by Rietveld analysis. The other two methods overestimate the background mass loss and neglect CO2 released outside the determined temperature range. Furthermore, the lattice parameters of carbonates manifested the reason for the change in carbonate decomposition temperature.
