Teng Chin Tsai

The proximal venous outflow obstruction plays a substantial role in the etiology of lower limb venous insufficiency, venous endovascular intervention has emerged and popularized worldwide in the last decade; nevertheless, significant drawbacks are associated with the mere guide of venography to the iliac vein intervention, which can be overcome by the introduction of intravascular ultrasound. This device offers real-time dynamic intraoperative imaging to define exact location and severity of venous lesions, such valuable additional information helps operator to achieve appropriate decision making concerning the intervention; beside, immediate assessment of result of procedure could be accomplished with the same technique. We present our experience regarding to intravenous ultrasound application in treating both thrombotic and non-thrombotic iliac vein obstruction.
