[MP-22] Successful treatment obtained long term patency with viabahn for repeated restenosis
femoral popliteal bypass; a case.
A 91 years old woman, received femoral popliteal artery bypass few years ago come to our hospital due to sudden and progressive rest pain, cyanosis, feeling cold of the left leg. We found the small diameter femoral popliteal artery bypass occluded and native superficial femoral artery chronic total occlusion by ultrasound examination. The patient started hospitalized and received medical therapy, but the symptoms progressed. We performed conventional intervention such as aspiration, balloon angioplasty to femoral popliteal artery bypass and once obtained bypass patency, improved symptoms. In less than a month after first intervention, the patient returned to our hospital due to the recurrence of symptoms. The femoral popliteal artery bypass was re-occluded. We performed re-interventions such as stenting, forgaty to the bypass but unfortunately, the bypass was repeated occlusion in less than few months.
Finally we performed deployed Viabahn (Gore medical, Flagstaff AZ USA) from femoral artery to popliteal artery through the femoral popliteal artery bypass. We used Viabahn much larger than bypass artery diameter. After procedure, blood flow at the popliteal artery improved and the symptoms disappeared. No symptoms appear in the patient again, Viabhan maintains patency over a year.
In this case we reported a case, Viabhan is useful device for repeated stenosis / occlusion vessel and brings long term patency.
