[PI-2-5] Case Report of Stuffed Toys Therapy

Background : “ Stuffed Toys Therapy” are original from the nursing homes or retirement centers and the major population are the elders with Dementia. It’s a method of treatment that concerned about the inner vaules.Recently, it was also used to be as an intermediary to help children with Autism diagnosis to express how they feel and what they want to say.
Purpose : The intervention to the patients with atuism are increasing the movitation to express and increasing the attention span .We hope the contents of this reserch can increase the patient’s will to communicate by Stuffed Toys Therapy. Furthermore ,we also hope improve the patient’s motor skills and the cognition at the same time.
Case Problem : The patient is a six-year-old girl with Autism diagnosis. She like self-talking and gesture , but she denied all kinds of congition activities. She searches vestibular stimulation in active , but lack of eye-contact and she can’t response the correct anwer when asked. She’s interested in playing a bear stuffed toy , but she’s sacre of the toys that make sound automatically.
Occupational Evaluation and Intervention :
1.Stuffed Toys Therapy : (1) Using a bear stuffed toy as a device to communicate with the patient .(2) Using a bear stuffed toy to practice self-care activities (ex.putting-on shoes and socks) (3) Using a doll to guide the cognition (ex :
nodding, say hello to someone else……)
2.Occupational Therapy : (1)Provide suitable vestibular stimulation to increase awareness. (2)Practice doing puzzles (3)Giving all kinds of activities to improve the development of all aspects. (4) Response when asking. (5) Share and exchange goods with others.
Result and Discussion : After eight months of intervention , the improving parts of the patient are as the followings :
(1)Increase the motivation of communication and leraning.
(2)Willing to share and exchange goods with others.
(3) Better self-care performance than before.
