[PJ-1-7] Effect of Senior Fitness Club in a Psychiatric Hospital
Objectives: In response to the rapid aging of the population structure, the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan implemented the Senior Fitness Club Project from 2020. By providing senior citizen multi-physical activity programs, to promote their physical and mental health, reduce frailty, and social participation.
Methods: A psychiatric hospital in central Taiwan undertook this project in 2022. Participants included Chronic Psychiatric Disorders (CPD) patients, senior citizen with dementia, normal senior citizen and their caregivers. The priority goals of the physical activity group were improving muscle strength and endurance. Using the changes of Sarcopenia items as outcomes.
Result: 191 senior citizens participated this program. The cumulative number has reached 1877 in 2022. The average satisfaction rate is 94.86. 71.7% of participant their sarcopenia items maintained or improved more than 2 results.
Conclusions: Muscle training and intensity exercise can further delay the decline caused by aging. It is hoped that the project can take advantage of the particularity of psychiatric hospitals to provide physical fitness and health promotion for senior citizen with CPD or dementia and caregivers of frail groups.
