The present marine ecosystem modelling includes mathematical modelling of physiological and ecological processes of a specific organism(s), to integration of these individual process models. Some models cover a specific oceanic region, whereas others global oceans. In addition, not only ecosystem structure itself but also interactions with a surrounding environment may also be taken in to account in these models. Accumulation of scientific advances from these models would give essential understandings on how marine ecosystems function and vary with environmental changes in our planet. In this session, we aim to build consensus of present scientific knowledge obtained by modelling works, to introduce new scientific challenges, and to foster communication with scientists in other but relevant scientific fields.
