[S-SS31_30PM2] Comprehensive approach to the intraplate earthquakes

Wed. Apr 30, 2014 4:15 PM - 6:00 PM 502 (5F)

Convener:*Norio Shigematsu(Active Fault and Earthquake Research Center, Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), Aitaro Kato(Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo), Takuya NISHIMURA(Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University), Chair:Satoshi Matsumoto(Institute of Seismology and Volcanology, Faculty of Sciences, Kyushu University), Tetsuhiro Togo(Institute of Geology, China Earthquake Administration)

It is necessary to clarify the generating process of large shallow intraplate earthquakes, in order to develop the method that forecasts the occurrence of large intraplate earthquakes based on their physics. In this session, we will investigate the generating process of large intraplate earthquakes by integrating multidiscipline approach of geophysics and geology. In addition, the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake triggered widespread seismicity in NE Japan, due to the large extensional stress perturbations. We welcome papers on researches of the induced seismicity and the crustal response to mega-thrust events.
