This session has been presented as a public outreach session since 2006. The JpGU Publicity and Outreach Committee members are conveners of this session.

【概要】
冬季に北陸で発生する高高度発光現象「スプライト」は日本海から内陸にかけて多発する．そこでスプライトの発生と地形との関係について調べた．
方法は全国のスプライト観測校と同時観測を行い，208件のスプライトについて三角測量により発生地点を求め，GISソフト「Mandara」を用いて地形図にプロットした．
この結果，越前岬西方の北緯36°，東経135°40′付近でスプライトの発生頻度が最も高いこと，海岸線付近が急峻な福井県ではスプライトの件数が多く，陸上に集中していることがわかった．このことから，海岸の地形が積乱雲や落雷の性質に影響を与え，スプライトの発生に関与していることが予想される．
