[M-IS46] Marine manganese deposits: Origin, growth processes, and environment

Wed. May 27, 2015 6:15 PM - 7:30 PM Convention Hall (2F)

Convener:*Akira Usui(Dept, Natural Science), Yoshio Takahashi(Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo), Takashi Ito(Faculty of Education, Ibaraki University), Katsuhiko Suzuki(Research and Development Center for Submarine Resources)

The ferromanganese oxide deposits are integrated precipitates of hydrogenetic iron and manganese oxide with minor useful metal elements. The recent exploration of the deposits using ROV mapping and deep-sea drill provide us with new findings on mineralogy, geochemistry, microbiology, and physical engineering. The session reposts the results of munti-disciplinary, multi-institutional investigation of origin, growth process, resource potential of hydrogenetic and diagenetic ferromanganese nodules and crusts in the Northwestern Pacific oceans

6:15 PM - 7:30 PM
