[S-IT36] Technical Prospects of Active Monitoring and Simulation of the Deep Earth

Mon. May 25, 2015 9:00 AM - 10:48 AM 102A (1F)

Convener:*Nozomu Takeuchi(Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo), Toshiki Watanabe(Coordination Center for Prediction Research of Earthquakes and Volcanic Eruptions, Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo), Chair:Toshiki Watanabe(Coordination Center for Prediction Research of Earthquakes and Volcanic Eruptions, Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo), Nozomu Takeuchi(Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo)

The "frequency comb" generators of elastic and electromagnetic waves, "ACROSS", made it possible to routinely monitor the Earth's interior with least contamination by noise. We are improving technologies and have recently got prospects of extending our research target to the global Earth by examining an innovative mechanism for elastic signal emission. This should enable direct detection of deep mantle convection and extend territory of seismology. It also demonstrates insignificance of being conscious of existing boundaries of research fields. In this session, we welcome papers and proposals on technical development and analysis of active monitoring studies and other related topics to discuss future of these new research fields.
